1.   As you know, Feline Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine disease of older cats.

2.   In its advanced stages this disease will emaciate cats and predispose them to various heart diseases and cause conditions associated with high blood pressure.  If left untreated, it will rob cats of years of good health...and cause their premature death.

3.   In its early stages cats may show no clinical symptoms.  As it progresses, signs may include weight loss, increased water intake, & increased urine output...frequently in association with a vigorous appetite   [please note: some cats do not read Sherding or Ettinger or Norsworthy or Kirk and their symptoms may vary].

4.   The good news (in addition to the Gospel, which is the real good news) is that Feline Hyperthyroidism is a treatable & curable disease.  Radio-Iodine (I-131) is the best treatment.  It is safe, gentle, & cost-effective.  A single injection cures 95% of the cases.  It requires no surgery & no anesthesia.  There is no radiation sickness of any kind.  It is extremely safe.

5.   As you may be aware, our Regional Feline Radio-Iodine Center  is licensed to provide this state of the art I-131 radio-iodine injection.

6.   Because we feel that all of us are missing many cases of Feline Hyperthyroidism (due to client reluctance to pay for testing); and, in order to facilitate the diagnosis of this common disease, for cats eight years of age & older, we are currently providing free (i.e., at no cost to you) thyroid screening by means of measuring the cat's blood concentration of Total T-4

7.   When we have completed the test we will provide the test results directly to you and to your client (by fax, email, or mail); and, we will include recommendations for further testing (if warranted) and/or recommendations for treatment.  (Why send test results to your clients?...please see paragraph "12." below).

8.   Our free screening does not include any other tests.

9.   Please allow 7-10 days to receive your test results (Our Abbott IMx machine uses carousels that hold @20 tests each; so, except for emergencies, we run our tests in "batches").

10.   Please noteOnly clinics & patients within our seven State market area (AR, TN, MO, MS, OK, LA, & northern TX)* may participate in our free feline thyroid screening program.  Please  priority mail the blood sample(s) to us (1/2cc of serum or plasma, red-top or sst or green-top tubes, no purple or blue-top tubes;  room temperature is ok).  Vet techs: please avoid hemolyzed &/or lipemic blood samples.   Thank you.

Also, please let us know if the cat(s) is/are taking any medication? (No or Yes______________); and, has the cat ever had Thyroid surgery? (No or Yes & when?___________________).

11.   In all cases the serum/plasma samples must include complete contact information for both the cat owner & you, their local veterinarian as follows:

Cat Owner's complete Mailing Address:_____________________________________________________________________________

12.  Our Promise to You:   Our goal is to identify hyperthyroid cats.  Yes, we intend to mail those patients information about our Feline Radio-Iodine Center;  however, the decision to treat these cats...and the decision as to which treatment method to use...these decisions are entirely between you & your client.   Also, we will never solicit for nor provide any services not directly related to our primary mission of treating hyperthyroid cats with radio-iodine.

*16.  "What can I do if we are outside of your stated market area?"   We will be happy to run Total T4 tests for you for $12 each; however, used Abbott IMx machines are available online; and, once fully operational you can run T-4's for less than $5 per test.  The trick is locating & buying all of the peripheral components for the IMx.  If you buy them from Abbott you will need to mortgage the farm.  If you are outside our market area & wish us to run Total T-4 tests for you, please either provide us with a credit card number (& exp.date & security code from back of card) or simply include a $12 check for each sample.  We will not do billing.   Thank you.
